Genealogical Resources at the Dayton & Montgomery County Public Library
The Genealogy Collection is located in the southeast corner on the first floor of the Main Library at 215 E. Third Street, Dayton, Ohio. Librarians are available at the East Reference Desk to help locate materials in the Genealogy area. The Genealogy Librarian is also often available. She is on duty in the Genealogy area on Wednesdays from 2:00 pm til 6:00 pm
Photocopies: Most of the genealogical materials are reference only. They connot be checked out, nor are they available for interlibrary loan.<BR> However, a right-angle photocopies is available in the genealogical area for making copies. This copier must be used with genealogy materials because it reduces the damage to book spines that can be caused by flattening books on conventional copiers.
Correspondence: The Library will answer correspondence, providing the request is clearly defined. For indepth searches, please obtain a list of local researchers from the Montgomery County Genealogical Society.

Magazines & Newsletters Many historical & Genealogical journals, Ohio Genealogical Society Chapter newsletters and family surname newsletters are available. The multi-volume <EM>Periodical Source Index</EM> is available to locate articles by family names and by places.
Census Records Cesus indexes are available for many Ohio counties and many states. Census microfilm is available for all Ohio counties for 1820, 1830, 1840, 1860, and 1880. In addition, census microfilm is available for Montgomery County for 1870, 1900, 1910, and 1920.
