GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

AFSA Kittyhawk Chapter 751

3 October 2006

 

1.      The meeting was called to order at 1130 in the Rocker Lounge at the WP Club, by outgoing President, SMSgt Joe Tangherlini, with 39 members in attendance.  All first time attendees were introduced.  Joe ceremoniously turned over the gavel to incoming President, CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia.

 

2.      CORRESPONDENCE:  (Received)

 

3.       REPORTED:

a.        Secretary:  Minutes from 5 Sep 06 GMM were approved.

b.        Treasurer:  August report was reviewed and accepted.

c.        Airman Activities Coordinator:  SrA Jacquelyn Allen – over 200 attendees at the Unaccompanied Airman’s picnic last Friday.

d.        Membership:  MSgt (Ret) Rodney Hromada– If anyone is interested in setting up a membership table at the BX Rodney will be able to assist with arrangements.  CMSgt (Ret) Andy Anderson stated we stand at 3092 members.  We have surpassed our goal of 400 recruited, with 416 for the year.  We have retained 155 members.  MSgt Henry Harlow says we have a 15.73% penetration rate of Active Duty members.

·        The FY 07 Defense Authorization Bill was passed by congress and these are just a few items that were in the authorization:

-          A 2.2 percent Pay Raise for all active duty

-          Pay table expansion

-          Separation/transfers Incentives

-          Household goods coverage will now be full replacement cost starting 1 Mar 08

-          TRICARE Fees: Prevents DOD from increasing TRICARE Prime, TRICARE Standard, TRICARE Reserve Select premiums, or pharmacy co-payments, during FY07

·        A complete list of all the changes is available upon request. The chapter will soon be releasing a legislation sheet list all bill being support by AFSA with the House and the Senate as well step by step instructions on how you can contact your elected official.

g.       Fisher Nightingale Houses, Inc. (FNHI):  SMSgt George Broome – FNHI is selling coupon books for $5 to raise funds.  For more information, please visit:  http://www.fnhi.org/

h.       Community Action Information Board (CAIB):  Next meeting is 30 Oct 06.

i.         First Term Airman Center (FTAC):  TSgt Stacie Parsons - Seventeen of 22 students were recruited from the last session.

j.         Enlisted Partnership: CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia– The first meeting in many months was held in September.  They will be held on the 3rd Wednesday every month.

k.       Auxiliary:  Julie Durkee– Next meeting 6 Dec 06 at Celesta Merryman’s home.  This meeting will be the Auxiliary elections; anyone wishing to get involved should attend this meeting.

 

  

4.       OLD BUSINESS:

a.        Election Committee: SMSgt (Ret) Frederick Dembinski along with assistant SSgt Charles Roberts opened the floor for nominations. (OPEN)

·         Nominations for President:  CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia 

·         Nominations for Vice President:  CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia, SMSgt (Ret) Fred Dembinski, SMSgt George Broome, and TSgt Stacie Parsons,

·         Nominations for Trustee:  SMSgt (Ret) Fred Dembinski, MSgt (Ret) Rodney Hromada, MSgt Gary Sapp, MSgt Chris Parsons , TSgt Stacie Parsons, TSgt (Ret) Jeff Stepanek, SSgt Charles Roberts, SrA Ryan Kocak.

b.        Dayton Bombers Chuck-A-Puck:  SMSgt Joseph Tangherlini – Waiting on the $130, turned everything over to President Garcia. (OPEN)

c.        USAF Marathon:  CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia – The AFSA relay team did well.  Thirty volunteers assisted at Station 8.  Have not heard if Services is having a volunteer appreciation meal this year.  (CLOSED)

d.        Standing Policies Review/Updates:  CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia –They are near completion and will be presented at the next Exec Council meeting.  (OPEN). 

e.        Unaccompanied Airman’s Picnic:  SrA Jacquelyn Allen – Banners were hung stating AFSA was being represented at the games.  They have a “wrap up” meeting next week.  (OPEN)

f.         Volunteer Recognition BBQ/Picnic:  CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia – 21 Oct 06, 1300 at Tom Cloud Park in Huber Heights.  An email will be sent out to invite all volunteers and their families that assisted with any events this year.  Those that were a POC for any event should forward the invitation to those on their list of volunteers.  TSgt Kristen TenWolde- will request volunteer support.  (OPEN)

g.       Xenia Old Fashion Days:  Kevin Martin – Good turn out of volunteers. (CLOSED)

h.       Commissary Case Lot Concession: CMSGT (Ret) Chuck Worm – Raised $811.75, owe $100 to the Auxiliary.  (CLOSED)

i.         Thanksgiving Baskets:  TSgt Stacie Parsons – the first planning meeting is 16 Oct 06.  We will assemble the baskets in the Commissary Warehouse on 18 Nov 06.  (OPEN)

j.         South Vienna Sweet Corn Festival: Kevin Martin - another good turn out of volunteers.  (CLOSED)

k.       Yellow Springs Street Fair: Kevin Martin - 14 Oct 06, 0800-1800, ALS will provide volunteers needed.  (OPEN)

 

5.       NEW BUSINESS:

a.        Temporary Appointments:  CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia – Due to PCS moves there were several vacancies in the Exec Council.  Temporary Appointments were made:  VP – SSgt Rich Striggow, 3rd Trustee -  SMSgt (Ret) Fred Dembinski, and 4th Trustee - SrA Ryan Kocak  (CLOSED)

b.        Highway Clean up:  SSgt Richard Striggow – 21 Oct 06, 0900, meet at Gate 1 C.  Anyone wanting to meet for breakfast before, we meet at Roush’s on Main St. in Fairborn at 0800.  (OPEN)

c.        VA Christmas Party:  CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia – Will need volunteers and food, more to follow.  Will find out if VA needs clothes donated.  (OPEN)

d.        Open Discussion:

1.       CMSgt (Ret) Chuck Worm asked if anyone knew if there was or will be a Retiree Appreciation Day.  (CLOSED)

2.       CMSgt (Ret) Andy Anderson asked the First Sergeants if the AFSA awards packages conflicted with the Annual Awards.  We are moving our request to early December.  (CLOSED)

3.       SSgt Mike Feggans – Jarvis Gym will close effective 13 Oct 06.  There was a lot of concern about morale for the Airmen that live near the gym.  MSgt Jim Allen says there are more details to follow, but the gym will close on 13 Oct 06.  (CLOSED)

4.       MSgt (Ret) Rodney Hromada says his daughter is working on her Gold Award for Girl Scouts and would like to collect donated items to send to troops overseas.  There needs to be some validation if this can take place on base during CFC, but she is concentrating her efforts in Englewood where they live.  Anyone that would like to donate should get in touch with Rodney.  (CLOSED)
