GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

AFSA Kittyhawk Chapter 751

7 November 2006

 

1.      The meeting was called to order at 1135 in the Fireside Room at the WP Club, by President CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia, with 20 people in attendance.  One first time attendee was introduced. 

 

2.      CORRESPONDENCE:  (Received)

Guest Speaker:  Mr. Steve Carylon, Director of Services, spoke to us regarding the closure of the Jarvis Gym.  Services had five positions realigned due to deployment purposes and another nine civilian positions cut also, along with a budget cut.  There were several options discussed before the closure was made.  There will not be any additional expenses, like; pay to play, or pay for use.  They have expanded the hours of the other two gyms to help accommodate the people using the facilities.  He also announced that during the 2008-09 fiscal year that a 30,000 sq ft building will be constructed next to the Library, to include Auto Skills and Arts & Crafts

3.      REPORTED:

a.       Secretary:  Minutes from 3 Oct 06 GMM were approved.

b.      Treasurer:  September report was approved.

c.       Enlisted Partnership: CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia– CMSgt Smith addressed the idea of bringing more Enlisted décor into the club. They will have monthly meetings held on the 3rd Wednesday.

d.      Airman Activities Coordinator:  SrA Jacquelyn Allen – the Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony on base, 1 Dec 06.  She is looking for four volunteers to help serve hot chocolate.

e.      Membership:  CMSgt (Ret) Andy Anderson –we stand at 3050 members.  We have a total of 619 for the year, with 168 of those being retained.  Ruben –membership kick-off, 18 Jan 07, will be going to the First Sergeant’s to get unit leaders.  Rodney Hromada requests someone take over as Membership Chairman, he will still be there to assist.

f.        Legislation:  CMSgt (Ret) Andy Anderson – recently learned that retirees will get a 3.3% pay raise in January.  Please read more on the website:  http://www.hcst.net/afsa751/legislation.htm 

g.      Chapter Web Page:  SSgt Richard Striggow – The website is continually being updated, please visit http://www.hcst.net/afsa751/   Rich requests any AFSA pictures to be posted on the website.

h.      Fisher Nightingale Houses, Inc. (FNHI):  SMSgt George Broome – FNHI is selling Elder-Beerman coupon books for $5 to raise funds.  They will set up outside the store at Fairfield Commons Mall on 10 Nov from 1000-1400 to sell books, looking for volunteers to help.  For more information, please visit:  http://www.fnhi.org/

i.        Community Action Information Board (CAIB):  Chris Parsons – met last week, briefed the Board about AFSA.

j.        First Term Airman Center (FTAC):  - Thirteen of 21 students were recruited from the last session.

k.      VA Volunteer Services:  CMSGT (Ret) Chuck Worm – next meeting is 9 Nov at 1100, he encourages more AFSA attendance.

l.        Auxiliary:  Julie Durkee– Next meeting 6 Dec 06 at Celesta Merryman’s home.  This meeting will be the Auxiliary elections; anyone wishing to get involved should attend this meeting.

  

4.      OLD BUSINESS:

a.       Election Committee: CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia – states that TSgt Stacie Parsons requests to be removed from the Vice President nomination due to her upcoming deployment, but wishes to remain as a Trustee nominee.  Ruben made a request for nominations; TSgt Tony Pence was nominated for Trustee.  (OPEN)  Nominations are as listed:

b.      Dayton Bombers Chuck-A-Puck:  CMCgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia  – Waiting on the $130 (OPEN)

c.       Standing Policies Review/Updates:  CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia – policies were accepted and approved at the 17 Oct 06 Executive Council meeting.  (CLOSED)

d.      Volunteer Recognition BBQ/Picnic:  TSgt Kristen TenWolde – 21 Oct 06, a great turn out of volunteers at Tom Cloud Park in Huber Hts.  A plaque was presented to CMSgt Joe Tangherlini for all that he contributed to AFSA.  A special Thank You to Kristen for all the cookies that she baked for the picnic.  (CLOSED)

e.      Thanksgiving Baskets:  Julie Durkee – Several volunteers will assist with set up the evening of 17 Nov.  We will assemble the baskets in the Commissary Warehouse on 18 Nov 06 beginning at 0800.  The pick up times for the First Sergeants will be staggered.  (OPEN)

f.        Yellow Springs Street Fair: Kevin Martin - 14 Oct 06, ALS provide volunteers needed, a good time was had by all.  (CLOSED)

g.      Highway Clean up:  SSgt Richard Striggow – Fourteen volunteers assisted with highway clean up.  Security Forces were called out to see why people were walking around the base perimeter.  Great opportunity to check out the photos on the website.  (CLOSED)

h.      Newsletter:  SSgt Richard Striggow – just received the labels for the postcards, so they should go out soon.  The newsletter will be posted on the website.  (CLOSED)

i.        Gift Wrapping at the BX:  SSgt Richard Striggow – 8 and 9 Dec, 1000 – 1800, all proceeds will be donated to the FNHI.  Looking for volunteers to assist with wrapping.  (OPEN)

j.        VA Christmas Party:  Chris Parsons – Need volunteers and food, and the VA is accepting donations, are in need of coats.  Chris will be out of town, Chuck Worm will assist.  (OPEN)

 

5.      NEW BUSINESS:

a.       Airmen Against Drunk Driving (AADD):  SrA Jacquelyn Allen – 1 Dec 06, 2200-0300, need two more volunteers.  (OPEN)

b.      AFSA Installation Banquet and Awards:  CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia – 19 Jan 07, the planning committee has started meeting.  (OPEN)

c.       Bears:  CMSgt (Ret) Ruben Garcia - Check out the ad in the newsletter and back of the agenda.  We are trying to sell bears, especially the Teacher Bears, as Christmas gifts.  (OPEN)

 

6.      The meeting was adjourned at 1240.  The next General Membership meeting is 5 Dec 06.
