GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

AFSA Kittyhawk Chapter 751

2 May 2006

 

1.      The meeting was called to order at 1135 in the Fireside Room at the WP Club, by Ruben Garcia, with 32 people in attendance.  Three first time attendees were introduced.

 

2.      CORRESPONDENCE:  None               

 

3.      GUEST SPEAKER:  SSgt Jacob Gicker spoke about the Kings Island volunteer program.  It’s a great program for AFSA, and the volunteers that assist.  AFSA gets money according to how many volunteers work and the number of hours they work.  Last year our Chapter received over $2,000.  The volunteer will get tickets to return to the park another day.  Last year, depending on the day worked, the volunteers received 1-5 tickets, which amounted to over 400 tickets.  The volunteer is also able to remain at the park after working until the park closes.  Jacob says he has the tickets for those volunteers that worked last summer.  There are no dates set for 2006, but as soon as he gets them they will be posted.

 

4.      REPORTED:

 

a.      Secretary:  The minutes from the 18 Apr 06 GMM were reviewed and accepted.

b.      Treasurer:  The March report was reviewed and accepted.

c.       Airman Activities Coordinator:  A1C’s Allen and Amusa – All is starting out smoothly for them and they are very excited about the program.

d.      Membership:  Rodney Hromada - We have 230 new members toward our goal of 400 for 2006.  Our current total is 3110 members.  Rodney awarded top recruiters for the membership drive with AAFES gift cards, they are: Kristen TenWolde, Leroy Campbell, Gloria Ann Norwood, Daniel Benton and Ed Runkle.

e.      Legislation:  Andy Anderson – Things are looking good for HR 4949:  Military Retirees’ Health Care Protection Act.  Please keep up with current legislation at:  http://www.hcst.net/afsa751/legislation.htm

h.      Community Action Information Board (CAIB):  No report

i.        First Term Airman Center (FTAC):  Stacie Parsons – they meet on 4 May 06 at 1400 and the AAC’s will be attending also.

j.        Auxiliary:  Julie Durkee – next meeting will be on 14 Jun 06.

 

5.      OLD BUSINESS:

 

a.      AFSA Division 7 Convention:  Andy – It was a great convention.  Remark from Doc McCaulin – No one does it better than us!  (CLOSED)

b.      Dayton Bombers Chuck-A-Puck:  We’re still waiting on the fund raising money.  (OPEN)

  1. Commissary Case Lot Sale:  Chuck Worm– 19-20 May 06, we will have a food booth both days in front of the Commissary.  (OPEN)
  2. Relay for Life:  Ruben – 19-20 May 06 at Stebbins High School, support looks very good.  Our goal is to raise $4,000 for the American Cancer Society.  You can register by going to www.cancer.org   (OPEN)
  3. Fairborn Chamber Chat:  Chuck – 17 May 06, Gate 1 at the Nutter Center.  Volunteers need to be there at 1500 to set up, and we need cooks and servers.  The Chamber Chat will start at 1730, which is a social time between local businesses.  (OPEN)
  4. AAC:  Ruben – the new AAC’s are:  A1C’s Jacquelyn Allen and Rebecca Amusa.  (CLOSED)
  5. Angel Award:  RubenAFSA has been nominated and those that can attend should be at the Club by 1330 tomorrow (3 May 06), with the ceremony starting at 1400.  (OPEN)
  6. All American Evening:  JulesA wonderful event raising over $52,000 for FNHI, approximately $21,000 more than last year.  I had 14 terrific volunteers to assist and I want to thank each one of them.  Chris Stanley will be sending out Letters of Appreciation to these volunteers that they will receive through their commanders.  (CLOSED)
  7. CCAF Scholarships:  Stacie – Awarded two $250 scholarships at a ceremony last week.  (CLOSED)

 

6.      NEW BUSINESS:

 

a.      VA Picnic:  Ruben – 3 Jun 06, we will need 20-30 volunteers to assist with serving the patients at the VA Hospital in Dayton.  (OPEN)

b.      Yellow Springs Street Festival:  Kevin Martin – 10 Jun 06, needs 8 volunteers to assist, will split shifts from 0800-1300 and 1200-1700.  (OPEN)

c.       Dayton Air Show:  Fred Dembinski is the POC.  The air show is 29-30 Jul 06 at the Dayton International Airport, will need approximately 50 volunteers to assist with all beer booths.  (OPEN)

d.      Freedom’s Call Tattoo:  Chuck – 30 Jun 06, behind the National Museum of the Air Force.  This is being held in place of the Independence Celebration on 4 July.  (OPEN)

e.      Open Discussion: 

1.      The Hanoi Taxi will retire here this week.  It will make two flights carrying POW’s on Friday, and then open to the public for viewing.  On Saturday morning it will take off from Area C at 0800 and land on the runway behind the National Museum of the Air Force at 0930.  (CLOSED)

2.      USAF Marathon:  Ruben – The Air Force Marathon is 16 Sep 06.  AFSA sponsors a relay team, if anyone is interested.  We also support a water booth at Station 8.  Pictures from last year can be viewed on our website  (OPEN)

f.        Meeting Speakers:  We’re looking for persons or ideas for upcoming meetings.

 

7.      The meeting was adjourned at 1225.  The next General Membership meeting is on 6 Jun 06 at the WPAFB Club.
