GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

AFSA Kittyhawk Chapter 751

6 June 2006

 

1.      The meeting was called to order at 1130 in the Fireside Room at the WP Club, by SMSgt Joe Tangherlini, with 26 people in attendance.  Two first time attendees were introduced.

 

2.      CORRESPONDENCE:

a.      Received a $250 check from AFA Wright Memorial Chapter 212 for VA Picnic

b.      Received a $38 check from Family Services for Chamber Chat plaque

c.       Thank you from Airman & Family Readiness Center for Spouse Appreciation Day donation

d.      Thank you email from CMSgt Hake for AFSA support of VA Picnic and other events in the WPAFB community and surrounding areas

 

3.      REPORTED:

a.      Secretary:  The minutes from the 02 May 06 GMM were reviewed and accepted.

b.      Treasurer:  The April report was reviewed and accepted.

c.       Airman Activities Coordinator:  Hosted a Pizza Party for the WPAFB Dorm Residents.  100 residents showed up for 25 pizzas that were donated by local area pizzerias.  Membership:  Andy Anderson – Current total of members is 3,094.  We are only 110 members away from our 400 recruit/retain membership goal.  Keep up the good work!  Rodney routinely sends out membership reports to AFSA members.  There is currently an E1-E4 membership discount special.  If you need the discount forms, please contact Rodney or any Exec member. 

d.      Legislation:  Andy Anderson –Please keep up with current legislation at:  http://www.hcst.net/afsa751/legislation.htm.  Please check out the latest AFSA Bulletin on the Chapter web site.  There is information about the VA personnel records being stolen and other valuable information.  During this time, Andy announced his resignation as the Division 7 President.  He was appointed as the Trustee-Retiree and Veterans Affairs at the International level.

f.        Fisher Nightingale Houses, Inc. (FNHI):  Chris Stanley - All American Evening raised $54K for the Houses.  Please visit:  http://www.fnhi.org/

g.      Community Action Information Board (CAIB):  The next meeting is in July

h.      First Term Airman Center (FTAC): No report

i.        Auxiliary:  Dian Anderson – Next meeting 14 Jun, 1900 at Julie Durkee’s residence.

j.        VAVS:  Marv Dale – Several events were discussed—Walk with Giants and the Memorial Day events.  The 3rd Annual Veteran’s Salute Car & Motorcycle Show will be held on June 17.  It was also mentioned that the Chapter VAVS reps will going through a certification process sometime this month.  

 

4.      OLD BUSINESS:

a.      Dayton Bombers Chuck-A-Puck:  We’re still waiting on the fund raising money.  SMSgt Tangeherlini will follow up on the delay. (OPEN)

  1. Commissary Case Lot Sale:  Chuck Worm– Was held on 19-20 May 06, we had a food booth both days in front of the Commissary and raised a total of $876.39.  (CLOSED)
  2. Relay for Life:  Ruben – Was held on 19-20 May 06 at Stebbins High School.  Our team won the Gold Award for raising the most money, over $6,500.  There was also an article in the Dayton Daily News about TSgt Pence & CMSgt (Ret) Garcia wearing dresses as a fundraiser.  TSgt Pence will have the official numbers in the coming months.   3. Fairborn Chamber Chat:  Chuck – Was held on 17 May 06 at the Nutter Center.  We had lots of volunteers and food.  The event was a huge success.  (CLOSED)
  4. Angel Award:  JoeKarol Worm won the Angel Award in the individual category for her outstanding volunteer work with the VA Center, AFSA, VFW and many other places.  Joe presented her award since she didn’t make it to the ceremony. Good job!! (CLOSED)
  5. VA Picnic:  Joe – Was held on 3 Jun 06 and co-hosted with the AFA.  We had about 40-50 volunteers.  We served over 400 hamburgers & hotdogs, chips and etc. to 75 patients and took about 25 to-go boxes to the patients that could not come outside.  CMSgt Hake sent an email thanking the Chapter for their support of the VA Picnic.  (CLOSED)
  6. Yellow Springs Street Festival:  Scott Porter – The ALS class will support (OPEN)
  7. Dayton Air Show:  Fred Dembinski is the POC.  The air show is 29-30 Jul 06 at the Dayton International Airport…need approx. 50 volunteers to assist. (OPEN)
  8. Freedom’s Call Tattoo:  Chuck – Will be held on 30 Jun 06, behind the National Museum of the Air Force.  This is being held in place of the Independence Celebration on 4 July.  We need lots of volunteers.  (OPEN)
  9. USAF Marathon:  Ruben –Will be held on 16 Sep 06.  We need volunteers for the Water Station and runners to be part of the AFSA relay team.  (OPEN)

 

5.      NEW BUSINESS:

a.      AFSA International Convention:  The Convention will be held from the 13-17 of Aug 06 in Reno Nevada.  For more information please visit the website (OPEN).

b.      Standing Policies Review/Updates:  Ruben –These are due in November (OPEN). 

c.       GMM:  The next meeting will be 11 Jul 06 since the 1st Tuesday is a holiday (CLOSED).

 

6.      Open Discussion:

a.       Chuck Worm asked if the Chapter was submitting an ad in the AFSA Int’l Conv Magazine.  SSgt Striggow reported that one was submitted.  (CLOSED)

b.      SMSgt Broome mentioned the Medical Group membership drive netted 16 new members. (CLOSED)

 

7.      Meeting Speakers:  We’re looking for persons or ideas for upcoming meetings.

 

8.      The meeting was adjourned at 1230.  The next General Membership meeting is 11 Jul 06.
