GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

AFSA Kittyhawk Chapter 751

3 January 2006

 

1.      The meeting was called to order at 1130 in the Fireside Room at the WP Club.

 

2.      CORRESPONDENCE: 

A.     Received $200 donation from Air Force Aid for VA Holiday Party.

B.     Received Fairborn Chamber of Commerce 2006 Membership and Newsletter.

 

3.  REPORTS:

 

A.     Secretary:  Minutes from the 6 December meeting were presented and accepted.

B.     Treasurer:  November report was presented and accepted.

C.     Airman Activities Coordinator:  Scott Wise was not present and there was no report. 

D.     Enlisted Partnership:  Joe Tangherlini will be attending the meeting on 4 January.

E.     Membership:  Rodney Hromada states that it’s a new year and everyone starts with a clean slate.  Please get out and get some new recruits.  He has made a request to the First Sergeants to get POC’s for every unit on base. 

F.      Legislation:  Andy Anderson says we are the largest Chapter with 2,978 members.  He encourages everyone write their Congressman about the increase in Tricare fees.  He reminds people to check out the AFSA website. 

G.     Chapter Web Page:  Rich Striggow was not present, but has requested pictures from the Marathon, Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas events.

H.    Fisher Nightingale Houses, Inc. (FNHI):  Tony Pence was not present; the next FNHI meeting is on 25 January.

I.       Community Action Information Board (CAIB):  No report from Chris Parsons.

J.      First Term Airman Center (FTAC):  Chris Parsons attended the briefing and recruited 5 of 7 Airmen.  TSgt Stacie Parsons will attend the next briefing is on 12 January.

K.    Airman Leadership School (ALS):  Nothing to report.

L.     Auxiliary:  Dian Anderson reports that the next meeting will be on 15 March at 1900 at her house.  The Auxiliary had their elections on 14 December and elected Julie (Jules) Durkee as President.

 

5. OLD BUSINESS:

 

A.      Dayton Bombers Chuck-A-Puck:  There are 3 nights in January that we need volunteers to work, they are the 6th, 10th and 27th, please contact Scott Wise-776-9040. (OPEN)

B.      VA Holiday Party:   On 10 December, approximately 79 volunteers served 85 Veteran’s in the dining area of the VA Hospital and delivered food to 35 patients in their rooms.  The left over cookies and fruit were taken to the Fisher/Nightingale Houses, and distributed to the guards at the base.  (CLOSED)

C.      Awards & Installation Banquet:  The committee has a meeting this afternoon at 1630.  The banquet is on 27 January; please contact your First Sergeant or Geoff Oliver for reservations. (OPEN)

D.      Membership Drive:  Rodney Hromada stated the membership drive will kick off on 27 January; there will be a training session and luncheon for those helping.    (OPEN)

E.      BX Gift Wrapping:  Many volunteers assisted with gift wrapping on 11 and 12 December raising $172 that was donated to FNHI.  (CLOSED)

F.       Chapter Newsletter:  Ruben Garcia reports that he and Rich Striggow are working on putting a Chapter Newsletter together to be published in February.  Please let them know if you have something of interest to be included.  (OPEN)

 

6.  NEW BUSINESS:

 

A.     Eagle Scout Awards:  Rodney Hromada is getting things ready for their awards ceremony.  He needs a POC for the Tecumseh Council. He is also checking with the Girl Scouts about their Gold Award.  (OPEN)

B.     Membership table at the BX:   Rodney will have a membership table set up in the lobby of the BX on 6, 7, 20 and 21 January and needs some volunteers to help with that.  He will split the days into 2 hour shifts from 0900-1700.  The membership discount for E-5 and E-6 is in effect until mid January.  (OPEN)

C.     Awards Board/Nominations:  All nominations should be in, and the boards will meet on 7 January.   (OPEN)

D.     Volunteer/Events Worksheet 2006:  Chuck Worm put together a worksheet and it was passed around so volunteers could sign up to be primary or alternate contacts for events.  (OPEN)

E.     Year in Review 2005:  Chuck gathered all the information and compiled a long list of the accomplishments for AFSA Chapter 751 for 2005.  (CLOSED)

F.      Open Discussion:  Kevin Martin, who is the entrepreneur that we assist with many of the food booths throughout the year, is at the University of Cincinnati Hospital to donate a kidney to a friend.  We will deliver a fruit basket to him with get well wishes.  (CLOSED)

G.     Meeting Speakers:  Bonnie Holtman from the National Museum of the Air Force was invited to speak on volunteer opportunities.  She spoke of the many exhibits that will be open in the near future, and the fact that the museum has over 300 aircraft and vehicles on display.  They are getting funds together for another building which will be next to the “Space Gallery”.  There are presently 400 volunteers to include 40 that work in restoration.  (CLOSED)

 

7.  The meeting was adjourned at 1220.  The next General Membership meeting will be held on 7 February at the WPAFB Club.
