
MINUTES OF THE
GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
AFSA Kittyhawk Chapter 751
1. The meeting was called to order at 1130 in Wings at the WP Club with twenty-six people in attendance. Four first time attendees were introduced.
2. CORRESPONDENCE: (Received)
A. Invitation to Fairborn Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet, 7 Apr 06, cost is $40
B. Invitation to AFJROTC Award for Tecumseh High School, 5 May 06.
C. Invitation to AFJROTC Awards Banquet for Wayne High School, 19 May 06. Rodney Hromada will coordinate someone to represent AFSA for both AFJROTC banquets.
3. REPORTS:
A. Secretary: The minutes from January GMM meeting were approved and accepted.
B. Treasurer: The December report was approved and accepted
C. Airman Activities Coordinator (ACC): Scott Wise is due to PCS soon and we are accepting nominations of Active Duty members of rank E-1 to E-5 for this position. A new ACC will be selected at the next Executive Council Meeting.
D. Enlisted Partnership: There is no meeting in February.
E. Membership: Andy Anderson reports we stand 3,010 strong, with 60 recruits and 34 retentions since 28 Jan 06.
F. Legislation: Andy Anderson reports that the DoD plan to raise TRICARE costs made it into the President's FY07 Federal budget proposal last night. Here is a website that gives you some further information: http://www.afsahq.org/docs/AFSA_news_021006.pdf
G. Chapter Web Page: http://www.hcst.net/afsa751/ Rich Striggow reports that photos on the website have been updated to include the USAF Marathon, the VA Holiday party and the AFSA Annual Awards Banquet.
H. Fisher Nightingale Houses, Inc. (FNHI): Tony Pence attended the meeting on 25 Jan 06. The All American Evening to benefit the FNHI will be held at the National Museum of the Air Force on 29 Apr 06.
I. Community Action Information Board (CAIB): No report from Chris Parsons
J. First Term Airman Center (FTAC): Stacie Parsons will attend later this week.
K. Airman Leadership School (ALS): The next ALS graduation will be on 23 Feb 06.
L. Auxiliary: Julie Durkee reports that the Auxiliary purchases red and blue carnations for all female guests that attended the AFSA annual awards banquet. We have received many compliments and Thank you’s for adding to a beautiful evening. The next Auxiliary meeting will be at Dian Anderson’s home on 15 Mar 06 at 1900.
5. OLD BUSINESS:
A. Dayton Bombers Chuck-A-Puck: Stacie Parsons says we need volunteers to help with the upcoming Bombers games, on February 10,12,14,17 & 18. Parking is free if you arrive by 1730, dress is business casual and you must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer. (OPEN)
B. Awards and Installation Banquet: International’s President, Doc McCauslin, and Auxiliary President, Carolyn Whitsell attended the banquet and gave superb remarks about the entire event. (CLOSED)
C. Membership Drive: The kick-off luncheon on 27 Jan 06 went very well. (OPEN)
D. Chapter Newsletter: Rich Striggow reports that the newsletter is nearly finished and should be ready for mailing the end of February. (OPEN)
E. Eagle Scout and Girl Scout Gold Awards: George Broome will attend the Eagle Scout awards at the Mandalay Banquet Center on 16 Feb 06.
6. NEW BUSINESS:
A. Tops in Blue: John Merryman is requesting volunteers to help backstage, security and as escorts for this event taking place at the Nutter Center the evening of 8 Mar 06. John can be reached at home 845-1434 or work 257-6133 (OPEN)
B. Heroes Welcoming Heroes: This event will be held on 15 Mar 06 to recognize returning military members from deployment that has served from 14 Oct 05 through 14 Mar 06. First Sergeant Jim Allen requests AFSA to provide a cash donation for the event. He also recommended to us to set up a membership table. This will be brought up at the next Exec Council to be held on 21 Feb 06. (OPEN)
C. Division Convention: Andy Anderson reports that the Division Convention will be held from 21-23 Apr 06. A planning committee will form soon to start making arrangements. (OPEN)
D. Open Discussion:
1. Taxes: Marvin Dale reports there are eight volunteers trained to assist retirees with their taxes. If you are in need of tax preparation service, the Retirees Affairs Office in conjunction with family affairs has set up a tax office on the second floor of building 206, if you need help go and see them or call 257-3221. 2. AFSA Scholarships: There are several scholarships available, check out what’s on the website at: http://www.amf.org/ (CLOSED)
E. Meeting Speakers:
1. Michael Martens from Wolfe Financial Planning spoke briefly about why it’s never to late to start planning for your future. (CLOSED)
2. Col. Fred Schuster from OH 88-1st AFJROTC, Tecumseh High School spoke about their program. He is requesting 40 volunteers to help with judging drill competitions on 11 Mar 06, starting at 0630. There will be at least 20 AFJROTC’s from eight states competing in the event held at Tecumseh High School. Active Duty members must wear their Service Dress uniform. The event is held the 2nd Saturday every March. The Col went on about becoming an instructor, which has no age limit. It’s a ten month contract; you must be within six months of retirement or already retired. You basically earn full pay of what you retired at. 7. Make note that we had 2 guest speakers and covered a lot of useful information and still kept the meeting under one hour! The meeting was adjourned at 1230. The next General Membership meeting will be held on 7 Mar 06 at the WPAFB Club.
