GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

AFSA Kittyhawk Chapter 751

4 April 2006

 

1.      The meeting was called to order at 1135 in the Fireside Room at the WP Club, by Ruben Garcia, with forty-three people in attendance.  Nine first time attendees were introduced.

 

2.      CORRESPONDENCE: 

    

     Received:

a.       A “Thank you” from AFMC/CCM for supporting Enlisted events, particularly the Annual Banquet

b.      An invitation to All American Evening (FNHI) 29 Apr 06 at National Museum of the USAF.

c.       A “Thank you” from 88 ABW/CC for support of the Team WP Annual Awards.

d.      A “Thank you” from 88 ABW Services Director for the Tops in Blue support.

e.      A “Thank you” from the Hromada family for sympathy card when Donna’s mothers passed.

f.        Many AFJROTC requests to attend their banquets and ceremonies.

g.      A letter of approval from CMSgt (Ret) Ralph Schell to name the SNCO award in his name.

h.      A “Thank you” note Anderson family for the card, plant and prayers after their car accident.

i.        Approval letter from Services to hold fundraisers in conjunction with commissary case lot sales.

j.        Flyers from Fairborn Chamber of Commerce, and the AF Enlisted Village.

 

3.      GUEST SPEAKER:  TSgt Tony Pence spoke about the Relay for Life that helps raise money for the American Cancer Society.  The Relay for Life starts at 1800 on Friday, 19 May 06 at Stebbins High School, and finishes at 1200 on Saturday, 20 May 06.  AFSA needs volunteers willing to walk (or run) at all times during the relay.  Last year AFSA raised over $3200, this year’s goal is $4000.  Tony also needs volunteers to supply food and water for those walking.  The first planning meeting is on Wednesday, 12 Apr 06 at 1600 at the Airmen Leadership School, Bldg 430.

 

4.      PRESENTATION:  Ruben Garcia presented CMSgt (Ret) Bill Richard with a case of blank CD’s and a $25 gift certificate to Logan’s Roadhouse for he and his wife, Linda’s gracious support and photographic services at many of the AFSA events.  Bill miraculously gets the copies of photo CD’s to any members that request them, in a short period of time, at no cost. 

 

5.      REPORTED:

 

a.       Secretary:  The minutes from the March GMM were reviewed and accepted.

b.      Treasurer:  The February report was reviewed and accepted.

c.       Airman Activities Coordinator:  A1C Brereton had to decline his appointment as AAC due to military commitments.  Assistant, SrA Newmeyer reported that she will deploy in May.  Ruben says he will contact A1C Camerino.

d.      Membership:  Rodney Hromada reported that during the membership drive we recruited 102 new members and retained seventeen members.  Kristen TenWalde recruited the most with 30, tied for 2nd with eleven recruits are:  Leroy Campbell and Gloria Ann Norwood.  As of this morning, we have recruited 208 new members this year, and retained 102.  The Chapter stands at 3011 members.  The Auxiliary has 292 members.  Ruben reported that there is a place on the membership form for Air Force Civilian membership, so we should try recruiting them also.

e.      Legislation:  Andy Anderson reported that members should read House Bills; H.R. 4949, Military Retirees’ Health Care Protection Act, and H.R. 602, Keep Our Promises to America’s Military Retirees Act.  These can be found at:  http://www.hcst.net/afsa751/legislation.htm  Andy also reported that the dedication of the Air Force memorial is on 16 Oct 06 in Washington, DC.

f.        Chapter Web Page:  Rich Striggow reported he is continuously updating the web page.  He will soon have the Newsletter posted at: http://www.hcst.net/afsa751/      

g.      Fisher Nightingale Houses, Inc. (FNHI):  Chris Stanley, Executive Director for the FNHI, was present at the meeting and asked to give some information about the upcoming benefit program (All American Evening).  Chris says this is one of the    biggest fund raisers they have to support the houses with the average expense of $14K a month.  Julie Durkee is the POC for volunteers for this event, and fortunately there have been many replies to assist and we have started a reserve list.  For more information on the Fisher/Nightingale Houses, please go to:  http://www.fnhi.org/

h.      Community Action Information Board (CAIB):  Chris Parsons reported the next meeting is 24 Apr 06, and he is unable to attend that meeting.  TSgt Angela Gibson volunteered to attend.

i.        First Term Airman Center (FTAC):  No report   

j.        Auxiliary:  Julie Durkee reported that Karol Worm is collecting Campbell’s Soup labels to send to an orphanage in Michigan.  We are also collecting toiletries to donate to the Women’s Abuse Center in Dayton.  If anyone has anything to donate for either of these, please contact Karol or Julie.  The next Auxiliary meeting is at 1900 on 14 Jun 06 at the Durkee home.

 

6.      OLD BUSINESS:

 

a.       AFSA Division 7 Convention:  Fred Dembinski reported that plans for the convention are going well.  It is on 21-22 April with several events taking place, to include: lunch, meetings, an icebreaker, breakfast, “Parade of Checks”, and banquet.  We need donations for the “Parade of Checks”, to be auctioned off during the convention and proceeds will be presented at the International Convention in Reno in August.  The icebreaker at the Hospitality Suite will have a ‘50’s Theme.  Reservations need to be made with John Merryman by 13 Apr 06.  A motion was made and approved to nominate Joe Tangherlini as the Chief Delegate.  The next committee planning meeting is tonight at 1700 in Wings.  (OPEN)

b.      Dayton Bombers Chuck-A-Puck:  Rich Striggow reported that the last game of the Dayton Bombers is 8 Apr 06, and that will be our last chance to raise funds with Chuck-A-Puck this season.  Those interested in volunteering need to be at Gate 3 at 1730.  (OPEN)

c.       Tops in Blue:  A report was made that we had a good turn out of volunteers for security and ushers at the Nutter Center for the Tops in Blue performance. (CLOSED)

d.      Chapter Newsletter:  Rich Striggow reported that the Chapter newsletter has been mailed and there are extra copies for anyone that wants one, or several to take back to their work place.  He says in order to save some money when the next one is complete, we will send a postcard to let everyone know that it can be viewed on the Chapter website.  If they don’t have Internet access they can call and we will send them a printed copy.  (CLOSED)

e.      Eagle Scout and Girl Scout Gold Awards:  George Broome reported that he went to the Eagle Scout ceremony where 68 Boy Scouts received their award.  He says that there could have been two volunteers to make things run a little smoother.  Julie Durkee reported that Jamie Cleveland went to the Girl Scout ceremony and 27 young ladies received their Gold award.  (CLOSED)

f.        Strategic & Annual Plans:  The Strategic and Annual Plans have been approved by the Executive Council.  (CLOSED)

g.      CMSgt Clint Allen’s retirement gift:  Chuck Worm reported that the framed Presidential certificate, 2 coins and photo of President Bush were presented to CMSgt Clint Allen at his retirement ceremony last week.  (CLOSED)

h.      AFJROTC/CAP & Events Worksheet:  Chuck Work reported that all the certificates and medals have been mailed to the AFJROTC and CAP units that requested them.  Chuck says that all local ceremonies are being represented except for two and he is requesting a volunteer for the ceremony on 12 Apr 06 at 1300 in Wilmington, OH.  Scott Porter volunteered to go to the CAP ceremony on 30 Apr 06 at Blue Ash, OH.  (CLOSED)

 

7.      NEW BUSINESS:

 

a.       Commissary Case Lot Sales:  Chuck Worm reported that we will have a food concession set up at the Commissary case lot sale on 19 and 20 May.  He is recruiting volunteers to help with selling hot dogs, brats and burgers.  (OPEN)

b.      Fairborn Chamber Chat:  Chuck Worm reported that AFSA, the Chiefs Group and the Family Support Center will host the 17 May 06 Chamber Chat at Gate 1 of the Nutter Center.  Volunteers will need to be there at 1500 to set up.  The Chat will start at 1730.  (OPEN)

c.       Open Discussion:  George Broome referred back to the AAC position and the current volunteers.  He let it be known that SrA Newmeyer and A1C Camerino will have orders to PCS this summer, and suggest that we search for volunteers for the position that will be able to fulfill the job for a longer period of time.  Two members responded immediately that they would be interested in taking on the position.  Ruben Garcia said he would to speak with A1C’s Jacquelyn Allen and Rebecca Amusa after the meeting.  (OPEN)

d.      Meeting Speakers:  SSgt Jacob Gicker is our guest speaker for the 1 May 06 meeting.  He is the coordinator for the King’s Island volunteer program.

 

8.      The meeting was adjourned at 1230.  The next General Membership meeting is on 2 May 06 at the WPAFB Club.
